Scallop Shell Gyotaku Print, Wet MountedScallop shells have been used so much in art and design they really are very pleasing. They are particularly tied to the Island of Anglesey as they have their own biscuit here. The Aberffraw biscuit is made by pressing biscuit dough into the shell to give it a distinctive shell shape. They make a lovely motif for Welsh Art. Printing requires pushing the paper into the grooves and it's difficult to achieve a great print. This print measures 35x25cm and

The print is supplied unframed or mounted and is simply wrapped in an acid free tissue paper and posted in a tube

These are quite fleshy compared to a bass or bream

Each time you make a print there is a risk the sardine will split leaking oil or you might not align it correctly and then the fish can unintentionally overlap

It is then varnished and supplied in a floating oak frame ready to go on a wall

Finally I take a second sheet and press that with a palm brush onto the glued print

This paper is strong yet flexible so ideal for shaping over fish

It's a wonderful experience to wander around the harbour fish market and buy some of the days catch for dinner

This is on Chinese paper measuring 34x69

However they are pretty tricky to deal with
