The settlement of Gnezdovo or Gnyozdovo is located in modern day Russia near Smolensk. It dates back to the 10th century and has a mixture of Slavic, Rusvik and Varangian influences. Helmets of this kind were worn by the Byzantine Viking Varangian guard as well as by the Vikings in the Baltic Sea area (Rusvik). The helmet is handcrafted from 1. 6 mm
