Scallop Shell Duo Gyotaku Multicoloured LayersI've always loved printing from the surface of a scallop shell and this print is no exception. I've taken one of my regular motif's, the scallop shell duo print and taken it into my multicoloured pallette. The paper is Chinese Xuan Paper and is A4 in size. The ink is Acrylic ink and is light fast and permanent. This work is framed and the outside dimensions of the frame are 45cmx33cm. For the majority of my work, I blend the ink as I apply it. Here

By applying ink directly to these fragments of modern detritus

This print measures 35x33cm and is on Chinese Mulberry paper and has been mounted using the authentic Japanese wet mounting technique which uses a simple flour and water paste and requires a period of around 24 hours to dry and stretch

However I was not expecting this

I use Japanese Masa paper for my backing paper and I have recently adopted a policy of doubling up on this process so that the print is bonded to two backing sheets

The initial print is wet mounted and reinforced with two layers of acid-free Japanese Masa paper for archival stability

I'm not sure if they will survive but I'm hoping they do

Once the work is made it must by flattened using the Urauchi process

The Tea Towel also has my Hanko on it
