milanese barbute 1465The barbute has been crafted after a beautiful original from 1465. The original is currently housed in the Muse de l'Arme in Paris, and was produced in the Lombard city of Missaglia. The barbute is a type of sallet developed so that the wearer would not need to attach a chainmail camail or other neck protection to the helmet. Barbutes such as this one originated in northern Italy in the early 15th century. The forward curving edges of the helmet
