M Schilz German Westerwald Stoneware JugA substantial German Westerwald stoneware jug by M. Schilz, made in the Rhineland's Kannenbckerland region. The classic globular body with pulled handle and flared foot is decorated in cobalt blue on a grey salt glaze ground: spiralling scrolls at the shoulder, a broad horizontal band of stylised leaf and petal motifs wrapping the widest point of the body, and further scrollwork and floral sprigs above and below. M. Schilz is a documented Westerwald

making it ready to hang immediately as a piece of historic decor
