The lid is inlaid with a softly detailed floral spray worked in contrasting veneers, roses, leaves, and stems rendered with real delicacy against a warm satin birch ground. A fine border frames the design neatly. The box sits on small bun feet and is secured by a key lock, though the key is no longer present. Inside, the box is lined

Areas of brass have aged and small areas have also been brought back to a silver tone (from polishing)
