Early 20th-Century Evening Street Scene With Canal & FiguresAn impressionistic early 20th century oil on canvas depicting a chilly scene in Scandinavia. The evenings sun is disappearing on the horizon as a group of figures rest by a canal. The artist, S Wedel, has created a beautiful graduated sky that culminates with an intense glow of pink and orange. Its an unusual piece due to the contrast between the dark architectural silhouettes and the light blue above. The painting is signed dated in the lower right

which is quite unusual for a military piece

The frames are showing their age but

hangs on the wall

Several areas of this painting are heavily textured

canvas relined and stretchers replaced

Artwork in good condition with a little bloom on the right-hand side

Van Dyck painted him in around 1632 and the original now hangs at the Kunsthistoriches Museum in Vienna

During the 1870s

During our research we’ve discovered another work by Sherrin that’s very similar but with the path bending in the other direction
